Just by chance I heard of this cake decorating class they have at Michael's from a facebook friend of mine (co-worker's wife). I was very interested because I have always wanted to know how to do something fancy with a cake. Can I tell you it is so much fun. I love doing it! The best part is I'm not the one eating it. My first cake I made (in the picture) was brought to work for my Fun Committee to enjoy. They loved it. I made another cake just like that for Easter and we brought some home, but it is now gone. Tonight I am going to class again and we are bringing cupcakes. We have learned a few different techniques so far. I have learned how to make wonderful icing, and how it makes a world of difference what consistency you are working with. I never liked writing on cakes, but now I do. It is super easy. I love thinking of the many possibilites you can do on a cake. Tonight we are learning how to make the roses. That will be fun. But we are also learning how to make clowns out of frosting and sweet peas, and a shell border. Wait till you see our final project. I am super nervous because it is crazy. After this course I want to continue on with the three other courses they have. However the next course is wedding cakes, and in all honesty, I really don't want to learn that, but we will see.
Oh by the way.. My favorite thing to make so far are leaves!! They are so fun!

A friend of mine at work took these classes at Micheals in Duluth. She brought us one of hers, too. It was her first try at "fondit"? Is that how you spell it? She now makes cakes-even wedding cakes-for people.
Yeah.. I think I am going to have to take the wedding class cake because they introduce fondant. Our teacher told us that last night. I have my final class next week and we have to bring in another cake and have it already decorated. Owen has already picked out which cake I should do, but I don't know.. I may want to challenge myself. I haven't made a perfect rose yet, so I need to practice those tonight. If I can get those down I may do a fancy cake for my final project. We will see. I will be taking the second course in June.
Your cake is really pretty - I would love to see what the clown cupcakes looked like - did the boys like them?
Oh I will put a picture up. Logan ate one, Owen was eating the whole time we were at my class. He was on a huge sugar high. I practiced my roses and even Ryan said they looked good. So I will post pictures of them too!!
